During the Great Walks season the huts on the Routeburn have bunks, mattresses, heating, toilets, gas cooktops, solar-powered lighting and cold running water, and a DOC ranger is in residence. The huts do not provide food, cooking utensils, showers or bedding. You can also camp along the route but remember to book.
The Routeburn is a fantastically scenic hike with alpine and lake views, alpine gardens full of delicate alpine plants, tussock meadows and spectacular vistas over the mountain ranges and valleys.
